Make sure that they are are at least 500 words long or even better, 1000 words. This way you can tell if you’re going to get bored with your chosen topic or if you have plenty to write about. If you can write 10 articles of that size then you most likely can keep it going. It would be such a bummer to buy a domain and get a website going all about slamball only to find out that you’re not as interested in it as you thought you were.

3. Have a Marathon Mindset Not a Sprinter’s Mindset.
Blogging is not a get rich quick scheme. Those who claim that it is are not being honest with you. There is a lot of work involved but if you tackle it in just 15-20 minute blocks you can get there one step at a time. “ A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” – Lao Tzu
4. Choose Your Blogging Platform.
Once you have written at least 10 killer posts there are tons of decisions to be made. The first one will probably be where will I blog? Blogspot?, Tumblr, WordPress? It all depends on the goals you have for your blog. If you’re looking to become an authority on a subject and you ultimately want to make the most money and you want loads of options on how to customize your blog you’ll want to buy a domain name and you may want to get started with wordpress.
If you’re not too sure yet you might want to start with blogspot. It’s free, simple to use and allows affiliate links. My first blog was with blogspot. I wrote about various Spanish teaching ideas. I started it as a place where my students, who were preparing to become Spanish teachers, could easily find the information I had given them in class. I learned a lot there! I learned how to promote my content, how to get good SEO juice and made some connections with other like minded bloggers. It’s a fun blog and I still post there every so often but I was ready for something new.
Along the way I decided that I wanted to start making money with my blog so I did! I became an amazon affiliate, made some money with google adsense and began reviewing and promoting Spanish products. It was a process but I enjoyed it!
